We have two levels for the wrestlers to compete in, Novice and Advanced. Novice is defined as 1st and 2nd year wrestlers that have not placed top three in an open tournament. Novice can compete in advanced events, advanced wrestlers may not compete in novice events. These wrestlers will compete in controlled "roll arounds" and will have a Novice Championship at the end of the season. Novice wrestlers can also compete in open tournaments throughout the season. Talk to your coaches to determine if your wrestler is ready to compete in open tournaments and to assure that there will be coaches at given events. Advanced wrestlers will be split between Elementary and Middle School Divisions. The cutoff date is Nov. 1st, 10yrs and younger is elementary / 11 - 14yrs is middle school division.
Upcoming events:
Sunday Nov. 20th – Novice Roll Around at Bohemia Manor H.S. –
This is for all 1st or 2nd year wrestlers that have not placed top three in an open tournament. This will be our first opportunity to practice what we’ve learned in a controlled environment. We will leave via caravan from Smyrna H.S. at 7:15am on Sunday morning and arrive at Bo Manor at approx. 8:00am. For those that are not used to traveling with me please understand that I will be pulling out at 7:15. The address is: Bohemia Manor High School,
2755 Augustine Herman Highway, Chesapeake City, Maryland 21915. If you would like to meet us there let me know.
Sunday Nov. 27th - Wrestle offs for Advanced squad and Practice Tournament for Novice kids.
All kids weigh in at 8:00am and wrestling should begin at 9:00. The Delaware Wrestling Officials Association will be there at 9:00 to officiate the matches; they are using this as a training opportunity for their new referees - so be gentle with them... In house Practice Tournament - We will not necessarily run the practice tournament to completion, this is more to help the kids and parents understand what to expect at a tournament and will conclude at 1:00pm. The below link will give you an overview of what to expect at a tournament.http://www.eteamz.com/smyrnalittlewrestlers/news/index.cfm?cat=358439 Advanced Wrestle Offs - The primary purpose of this wrestle off is to establish the line up for the Delaware Holiday Duals (Dec. 5th). It will also allow us to start hashing out a depth chart for the league matches. We generally take two wrestlers per weight to the league quad events. If you are not able to attend the wrestle offs, please let me know via email immediately so I can schedule challenge matches.
Saturday Dec 3rd - Smyrna Little Wrestlers Tournament.
I inserted Ginger's note, please help out...Our tournament date (December 3rd) is rapidly approaching… In order for our tournament to be successful we need your help! Since this is a fundraiser for our club this is where you can help us out. First thing we need are donations of the following foods: Hot Dogs & Rolls, Bottled Water, Gatorade, Soda, Boxed Candy. Next are the volunteers for the main Concession Stand, Score Tables, Wall Charts and Cleanup Crew. It takes many volunteers to make this size tournament run smoothly and successfully. Yes, it can be a very long, sometimes hard and stressful day, but it is fun and rewarding at the same time. Year after year, we see the same few people that always help us out. So let’s see some new faces helping out this year. Remember this is for your children, without volunteers this program would not be the success that it is today!
Please take a few minutes to come up to the table to see where or how you can help out. If you know of any other adults that are willing to donate a couple hours of their time, we would greatly appreciate it.
Friday, December 2nd *Night before the tournament we will need help setting up the wrestling mats & tables in the main gym / lobby at the High School.
Sunday Dec 4th - Delaware Holiday Duals, This will be held at Smyrna and we will let the wrestlers know who is participating based on wrestle offs and challenge matches next week. That's enough for now, I apologize for the size but there was a lot of information to get out there.
Any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me...
